Relaxation dynamics and exciton energy transfer in the low-temperature phase of MEH-PPV.

چکیده
Understanding the effects of aggregation on exciton relaxation and energy transfer is relevant to control photoinduced function in organic electronics and photovoltaics. Here, we explore the photoinduced dynamics in the low-temperature aggregated phase of a conjugated polymer by transient absorption and coherent electronic two-dimensional (2D) spectroscopy. Coherent 2D spectroscopy allows observing couplings among photoexcited states and discriminating band shifts from homogeneous broadening, additionally accessing the ultrafast dynamics at various excitation energies simultaneously with high spectral resolution. By combining the results of the two techniques, we differentiate between an initial exciton relaxation, which is not characterized by significant exciton mobility, and energy transport between different chromophores in the aggregate.

Dynamics of triplet excitons in MEH-PPV measured by two-photon photoemission
We have used two-photon photoemission to probe the dynamics of the long-lived triplet excitons in pristine and photo-oxidized lms of poly[2-methoxy,5-(2'-ethylhexoxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV). We use a rate equation model to explain the intensity dependence of the total photoelectron yield in terms of the relaxation dynamics of the triplet excitons. Observations of the pristine lms indi...
متن کاملInterchain and intrachain exciton transport in conjugated polymers: ultrafast studies of energy migration in aligned MEH-PPV/mesoporous silica composites
In this paper, we show how composite samples consisting of chains of the semiconducting polymer MEH-PPV embedded into the channels of oriented, hexagonal nanoporous silica glass allow control over energy transfer and exciton migration in the polymer. The composite samples are characterized by two polymer environments: randomly oriented and ®lm-like segments with short conjugationlength outside ...
متن کاملConformational disorder and ultrafast exciton relaxation in PPV-family conjugated polymers.
We report combined experimental and theoretical studies of excitation relaxation in poly[2-methoxy,5-(2'-ethyl-hexoxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV), oligophenylenevinylene (OPV) molecules of varying length, and model PPV chains. We build on the paradigm that the basic characteristics of conjugated polymers are decided by conformational subunits defined by conjugation breaks caused by torsio...
متن کاملExciton splitting and carrier transport across the amorphous-silicon/ polymer solar cell interface
The authors study exciton splitting at the interface of bilayer hybrid solar cells to better understand the physics controlling organic-inorganic device performance. Hydrogenated amorphous silicon a-Si:H /poly 3-hexylthiophene P3HT and a-Si:H/poly 2-methoxy-52 -ethyl-hexyloxy 1 ,4-phenylenevinylene MEH-PPV solar cells show photoresponse dominated by exciton production in the polymer. The a-Si:H...
متن کاملExciton-exciton annihilation and the production of interchain species in conjugated polymer films: Comparing the ultrafast stimulated emission and photoluminescence dynamics of MEH-PPV
Despite the enormous versatility of conjugated polymers for use in optoelectronic devices and the correspondingly large number of research studies on their photophysics, understanding of the fundamental nature of the primary photoexcitations remains highly controversial. Part of the reason for this controversy stems from the fact that the photophysics of conjugated polymer films depends sensiti...
